Social Media

Every election season WAVY produced “Candidate Profiles”. This lighthearted TikTok utilized a trending audio to raise awareness of the resource and push viewers from social media to the website to view the profiles.

This trend was very popular in November of 2024 so I talked to several of the on-air talent about making our own version.

This is the 7th most popular video posted on WAVYs TikTok account. We utilized video given to us by the organization and a green screen to make an interesting and informative video on the story that we follow up on, on air.

Election Coverage on Social Media

The night of the 2024 Presidential Election I managed the majority of the WAVYs Social Media presence. I produced 3 TikTok’s, communicated with reporters in the field to get updates for Instagram stories, and posted election results to the Instagram main feed.

The first TikTok I produced was an interview with the two political analyst that were in studio for the election.

My goal for the TikTok was to catch viewers on social media and alert them to us having a livestream of election results and create interest in our analyst.

I spoke with the evening anchor Tom Schaad about making a day in the life TikTok on election night to show viewers behind the scenes and help younger viewers get to know him better.

We made a plan for what content to record before work and once he got to work I checked in and recored him throughout his shift.

The last TikTok I produced on election night was a timeline of the night checking in on coworkers in several departments. I included a reporter, a digital content producer, a director, a senior producer, the assignment desk manager, and an engineer to show viewers all of the people it takes to have coverage on election night.

I also managed instagram stories for the station on election night, checking in with crews in the field at polling places and with candidates all night. Some reporters shared to their own story and tagged the stations account for me to share while others sent their videos back to me and I shared them directly from the station.
